1. Nightly Total Rate - Oftentimes, hotels advertise their prices as a nightly rate or as a total for your stay. Beyond that rate, check whether government-imposed tourism taxes, resort fees, cleaning charges, and VAT are included in the final checkout price or if they must be paid upon check-in.
2. Deposit fee - Properties impose incidental or security deposits for potential damages or extra charges, so always confirm this amount beforehand and include it in your budget.
3. Booking Policy (Cancelation/Refund/No show) - Always check the no-show policy. For late check-in, contact the hotel in advance to request it so your reservation isn't forfeited. Additionally, check the cutoff date for free cancellation and determine whether you are booking into a strict, non-refundable rate.
4. Safety and Walkability - Use google street view to inspect the area for accessibility.
5. Proximity to Attractions - Create itinerary for your attractions and map out transit time and cost from your hotel including bus stations, train stations, taxis, or airport.
6. Check-in and Check-out Time - Standards vary across local and international hotels, so always check these details to avoid inconvenience and ensure a well-rested stay.
7. Room Dimensions - Always check the room dimensions if it is ideal for the maximum occupants’ capacity
8. Amenities - Check if amenities such as Wi-Fi, air conditioning, parking, elevator access, bathtub, kitchen, spa, champagne, or breakfast are included, complimentary, or incur extra daily charges.
9. Guest reviews - Always read feedback from previous stayers and refer to star rating as well.
10. Price Match - Always compare prices between the hotel's direct website and various Online Travel Agencies (OTAs). Sometimes OTAs offer cheaper negotiated rates, while other times booking directly is less expensive due to exclusive promotional discounts.
